Project Background
The site, having been designed by Axiom needed to be built with the intention of expanding into more dynamic management of a greater volume of content. In this phase of development, the site would need to be functional while being able to facilitate further, modular developement in future.
Project Discussion
Andrew and Liam were great to talk to on this project as they were decisive about what they wanted while being receptive to ideas about where they could take their website in future.
The website was developed primarily as a static site, with minor aspects of dynamic content. We understood fairly early on that development would need to snap-in to the website with a minimum of fuss, so we built xml based components to furnish the dynamic areas of the website, namely: the navigation buttons and the news and event items.
The design and layout of the site heading is fairly graphics intensive, using non-standard, corporate fonts for the navigation button labels. We knew these buttons would change significantly over time as SatComms already had other products and information waiting to be added. The best solution was to use flash's ability to embed fonts and create the navigation button through flash.
Project Solution
Flash
Flash really did the trick for this site. The animated header gives the site some life and the navigation buttons are able to 'self-adjust' according to the content derived from the xml nodes.
News and Events
The news and events system allows SatComms staff to log in and create, update, delete and maintain a complete set of news and event items. Each item is controlled by a status, post-date and end-date, allowing the author to nominate when, how-long and who sees the news or event item. In addition a news or event can be posted ahead of time by nominating a post-date in the future or retrospectively by nominating a post and end date in the past.
